What is a private key?

A private key is a cryptographic key which basically is a long strong of zero's and ones.

The private key is created by a software or hardware wallet (we recommend using a hardware wallet). It's also stored on the device where it's created on.

Public keys, also named receiving addresses, are created from the private key. Only the owner of the corresponding private key can move crypto's from public keys.

It's essential to keep access to your private key. That's were a recovery seed comes in.

What is a recovery seed?

A recovery seed are 12, 18 but mostly 24 words. These words come from the BIP39 word list.

The recovery seed is a for humans easy readable version of the private key. This allows to remember it more easily and moreover writing it down.

Inputting these words into your software-/hardware wallet will regenerate the same private key.

So the recovery seed allows you to recover your private key and therefore your crypto.

Recovery phrase, 12/18/24 words and other terms are also used for this same concept.

Why SOLIDHODL?

A recovery seed is something you have to secure yourself. You don't share it with 3rd parties.

Thereby comes a great responsibility. If you lose your recovery seed you're likely to lose your crypto.

Putting your private key in a SOLIDHODL allows you to protect it against unwanted circumstances like a house fire.

The SOLIDHODL isn't the first to offer this solution but it's the first to simplify the process and helps you to prevent mistakes recording your recovery seed.

What is the difference between the SINGLE, DOUBLE and TRIPLE?

The basis containments of a SINGLE, DOUBLE or TRIPLE are all the same. The only differences are the amounts of SOLIDHODL plates.

  • Single: 1 plate
  • Double: 2 plates
  • Triple: 3 plates

When calculating the costs per recorded recovery seed you save 38 euro's by purchasing a Triple.

Also the outer box has small differences.
